About this car
This 1970 280SL is offered on eBay by beverlyhillscarclub in Los Angeles, CA. The asking price is $54,500. The car is finished in Signal Red over Black, a manual gearbox. The listing does not state a mileage. As with any Pagoda, the floors, sills and spare-wheel well deserve a close look for rust, and the soft-top frame and hardtop seals are worth checking.
What the photos show
- Photos are watermarked Beverly Hills Car Club stock #20189, the dealer's own set for this red Pagoda.
- Red paint is glossy and straight with bright chrome and matching red hubcaps, so the curb appeal is strong.
- The front wheel arch and rocker areas show brown corrosion and staining behind the front wheel and along the sill, so rust repair money is coming.
- Black soft top has a small hole worn in the fabric, and there is rust-colored staining on the rear deck edge beside the top boot, so budget a top and paint touch-in.
- The matching red hardtop is present and looks clean, which saves a separate purchase.
- Black seats look freshly retrimmed and the carpets look new, so the cabin needs little upholstery spend.
- Dash looks complete with its red painted panel, but the radio is a modern replacement and the steering wheel rim shows cracks, small costs to put right.
- With the trunk mat lifted, the trunk floor shows clear rust streaks and surface corrosion on the left side, so expect trunk floor work, not just a clean-up.
- Engine bay is complete and original-looking but grimy, with rust on the linkage and inner panels, so it needs detailing and sorting money.
- Can't judge the underside — no undercarriage photo appears in the sampled photos.
Money: at $54,500 the fresh-looking interior and glossy paint help, but the photographed trunk floor rust, arch corrosion and holed top say the cheap-looking Pagoda price will grow — get it on a lift before bidding.
