About this car
Hemmings listing in Mt Kisco, NY. Detail description identifies the car as a Mercedes-Benz 280SE 4.5. The discrepancy recorded in the notes is in the listing itself — settle it with the seller first.
What the photos show
- The deep burgundy paint is glossy and even all round, looking almost black in shade, so no repaint money is needed here.
- Chrome is excellent in the grille close-up, with bright bumpers and matching painted hubcaps, so no re-chroming cost shows.
- Yellow fog lamps are fitted at the front, a period extra that adds value rather than cost.
- The brown seats look clean and well-kept with strong grain and no tears visible, so no reupholstery money is needed.
- The dash wood is glossy, the gauges are clear and the odometer reads 80,454, so no dash restoration money is visible.
- The V8 engine bay is tidy overall, though the firewall insulation is mottled and the coolant bottle is yellowed, so allow a small freshen-up budget rather than a rebuild.
- Can't judge the underside or trunk — neither is shown in the photos, so floor and sill rust is still an inspection cost to spend.
Money: At $34,900 the paint, chrome, cabin and bay all present to a high standard for a W108 4.5, which supports the ask — only the unseen underside and trunk keep it from being a no-questions price.
