About this car
Canepa publishes no price for this car, so there is no asking figure to set against the 280SL average of about $125,600 — but the specification puts it at the very top of the Pagoda market: one owner for its first 44 years, then a bare-chassis, 100-point concours restoration by Mercedes-Benz's own U.S. Classic Center, a job Canepa says would cost over $600,000 to repeat today. It has covered only 626 miles since. The restoration refinished it in Moss Green Metallic over Cognac and converted it to European specification (headlights, front bumper, interior details), so check the data card to see exactly how it left the factory. Even on a factory-restored Pagoda, verify the Classic Center paperwork, confirm the mechanical injection pump and the upgraded air conditioning behave as they should, and remember the usual W113 checks — floors, sills, kingpins — are answered here by the restoration record rather than by the car's age.
What the photos show
- Only one photo is published with this listing — a studio front three-quarter with the top down — so most of the car can't be judged from photos at all.
- The Moss Green Metallic paint is deep, glossy and even across the hood, fenders and doors, with straight panel gaps — consistent with the bare-chassis Classic Center restoration in the listing text, and no paint or body budget shows from this angle.
- Chrome on the bumper, grille and headlight rims is bright and clean, and the European-spec headlights from the car's Euro conversion are fitted — no re-chrome money from this photo.
- The Cognac leather seats and headrests visible over the door line look fresh and uncreased, and the white steering wheel looks clean — but the dash, carpets and door cards are not shown, so the interior can't be judged beyond that.
- Body-colour hubcaps with chrome trim rings are tidy and the tires look fresh with full tread — no wheel or tire budget from this photo.
- No engine bay, underside, trunk or soft-top photos are published — the injection pump, the floors and sills, and the top fabric all stay unjudged until Canepa's full photo set or an in-person look.
Money: Canepa publishes no price, so there is nothing to set against the 280SL average ask of about $125,600; the money here is in the documented Mercedes-Benz Classic Center restoration and the 44-year single ownership, and neither can be proven by one studio photo — the paperwork, not the photo, is what to inspect.
